Yesterday, my family and I had a great day hiking Crowder's Mountain. It was a beautiful, warm day here in Charlotte and you could see the city from 30 miles away on the top of the mountain. After a great pizza dinner, we sat down around our chimnea and a nice warm fire. While watching the fire begin to engulf the newly cut logs, my daughter observed how the fire seems to wrap around the round logs until they are split or cracked. Once there is a crack or broken edge, the fire attacks that edge and soon the log is fully engaged.
That thought reminded me that we are very much like the round log in the fire. The enemy is constantly surrounding us and looks for a crack in the armor, a weakness to exploit, or an occasion where we let him in via sin in our lives. Once he can get a hold of us, it is hard to douse the flames of sin and we are often overwelmed by the fires in our lives. Thank the Lord that He promises to never leave us nor forsake us.
We need to remember to clothe ourselves in His Word and His righteousness - it is the ultimate fire suit.
