The War Around Us

When was the last time your faith was tested in a real, outward way? Most of us live our lives without having to defend our faith. If someone disagrees, we may try to convince them of the truth or we may just not talk to them anymore. We have the freedom to say and do just about whatever we want. However, all around us, the world ruled by our eternal enemy is pushing Christ and His followers out of the mainstream and into a box called radical or extremist.

It is not too far fetched to believe that we will see a time in the not too distant future where Christians will be thought of as second class citizens who are fraught with intolerance and ignorance. In the book, Soon by Jerry Jenkins, we see a society where religion of any kind is illegal because it causes friction and intolerance. Are we so far from that now? Just keep your eyes open to the news; read between the lines of the bullying laws, the soon to be built Mosque and what people are saying about those who oppose it. The is a war against Christianity and most of us are just destined to be collateral damage.

As Christ followers, we must be active in our faith. Not just going to church, but actively seeking God's direction for our lives, praying specifically and purposefully expecting God to move and spreading God's message of redemption. We can be triumphant. Not because we are larger in number or stronger, but because the "battle is not ours" (2 Chronicles 20:15). God has already defeated the evil one. We must continue to fight because it is the right thing to do and because we want to see all people come to Christ.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (attributed to Edmund Burke)
